Just arrived a few days ago in a big ol' bag. It smells as if it was stored next to some strong-smelling spices in a room for a long time or something. I've never smelled flax seed like this before. The smell was so different than expected that at first I thought they accidentally sent me some other spice, or that possibly they used another spice as filler. However, the texture and physical appearance looks pretty much like how I remember ground flax seed from the grocery store. But the smell is just as if they forgot to clean out the grinder appliance before switching from some other spice to flax seed. I put some in my smoothie, and I do not feel my tongue burning, so it's not like cayenne pepper or chili powder. I can't quite put my finger on what the smell is, exactly. I'm not quite sure if I would recommend buying this; I don't really trust it 100%. Lesson to be learned: First, purchase a small amount from a new vendor to test the product, before agreeing to buy in bulk. Update: After adding two tablespoons to a smoothie, my stomach felt sick for a few hours. I'm not sure if this is really flax seed or not. Definitely get your flax seed from somewhere else.
